The stock market in New York has ended the day LOWER.
Preliminary figures put the Dow Jones Industrial Average DOWN 108.97 points at 13,926.70, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index is DOWN 18.96 points at 1,511.98.
The NASDAQ Composite index is DOWN 49.64 points at 3,163.95.
The Australian dollar is trading at 102.46 US cents, DOWN more than one US cent from 103.65 at Wednesday's close.
The local currency is worth 95.90 Japanese yen, 77.17 euro cents, 67.23 British pence and 1.2278 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is DOWN $US1.97 at $US94.69 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open LOWER, with the SPI futures index DOWN 25 points at 5048.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Wednesay GAINED 16.8 points, or 0.33 per cent, to 5,098.7 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index ADDED 14.0 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 5,115 points.
The spot price of gold is $US1,564.5, DOWN from Wednesday's close of $US1,607.37.
