Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 index soared more than 3.0 per cent on Wednesday morning as the yen plunged after the Bank of Japan's chief said he would quit early.
The Nikkei jumped 3.07 per cent, or 338.89 points, to 11,385.81 at 10:45am (1245 AEDT) in mid-morning trade.
