The stock market in New York has ended the day LOWER.
Preliminary figures put the Dow Jones Industrial Average DOWN 130.18 points to 13,879.61 and Standard & Poor's 500 index DOWN 17.51 points to 1,495.66.
The NASDAQ Composite index FELL 47.96 points to 3,131.14.
The Australian dollar is trading at 104.31 US cents, DOWN slightly from 104.37 at Monday's close.
The local currency is worth 96.33 Japanese yen,77.19 euro cents, 66.20 British pence and 1.2371 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is DOWN $US1.60 at $US96.17 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open LOWER, with the SPI futures index DOWN 35 points at 4834.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Monday SHED 13.6 points, or 0.28 per cent weaker at 4,907.5, while the broader All Ordinaries index LOST 12.8 points, or 0.26 per cent, at 4,929.1.
The spot price of gold is $US1,673.87, UP from Monday's close of $US1,672.65.
