The Dow Jones Industrial Average is DOWN 8.60 points at 13,901.80 in afternoon trading in New York, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index is DOWN 1.27 points at 1,500.69.
The NASDAQ Composite index is UP 6.98 points at 3,149.29.
The Australian dollar is trading at 104.41 US cents, UP from 104.06 at Thursday's close.
The local currency is worth 95.42 Japanese yen, 76.93 euro cents, 65.80 British pence and 1.2423 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is DOWN 45 US cents at $US97.49 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open HIGHER, with the SPI futures index UP 10 points at 4855.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Thursday SHED 17.9 points, or 0.37 per cent, to 4,878.8 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index LOST 18.1 points, or 0.37 per cent, at 4,901.0 points.
The spot price of gold is $US1,661.3, DOWN from Thursday's close of $US1,680.25.
