The Australian dollar is higher, despite a weak night on global stock markets.
At 0630 AEDT on Friday, the Australian dollar was trading at 104.39 US cents, up from 104.06 cents on Thursday afternoon.
The currency gained ground overnight despite weakness in global share markets with London's FTSE 100 finishing 0.73 per cent lower overnight and Germany's DAX 30 losing 0.45 per cent.
In the US both the Dow Jones and S&P 500 were trading lower at 0630 AEDT.
