South Australia's energy market will be fully deregulated from Friday in a move the state government says will lead to lower prices for consumers.

SA joins the National Energy Customer Framework allowing consumers to compare offers from all energy retailers.

"I urge South Australians to make the most of this new era of deregulation by tracking down the best energy deals and avoiding paying more than you need to for electricity and gas," Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis said.

"Energy retailers are now obliged to provide detailed factsheets including information about prices, fees, discounts and any other incentives or penalties, making it simpler for consumers to choose the best offer for them."

Mr Koutsantonis said the new framework also offered greater protection and assistance for those people experiencing hardship.

Customers in financial hardship must be offered flexible payment options and be given support to access concessions, financial counselling and help to improve energy efficiency.
