The Dow Jones Industrial Average is UP 67.09 points at 13,949.00 in afternoon trading in New York, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index is UP 7.25 points at 1,507.43.
But the NASDAQ Composite index is DOWN 4.47 points at 3,149.83.
The Australian dollar is trading at 104.65 US cents, UP from 104.52 at Tuesday's close.
The local currency is worth 94.87 Japanese yen, 77.56 euro cents, 66.41 British pence and 1.2490 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is UP $US1.13 at $US97.57 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open FLAT, with the SPI futures index UP one point at 4855.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Tuesday GAINED 53.8 points, or 1.11 per cent, to 4,889.0 points - its highest close since April 2011.
The broader All Ordinaries index ROSE 51.9 points, or 1.07 per cent, to 4,910.8 points.
The spot price of gold is $US1,664.2, UP from Tuesday's close of $US1,661.30.
