Hong Kong stocks have opened 0.28 per cent down despite a positive lead from Wall Street, where the Dow and S&P 500 hit their best closing levels in five years at the end of last week.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index on Monday fell 65.24 points to 23,536.54.
Chinese shares were down 0.45 per cent in early trading on Monday as a result of profit-taking after a more than three per cent rise last week, dealers said.
