Hong Kong stocks have opened 1.18 per cent higher as the US congress looked set to back a deal to avert the fiscal cliff of drastic tax raises and spending cuts.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index on Wednesday was 267.00 points higher at 22,923.92 in early trade.
