Hong Kong stocks have opened 0.73 per cent higher following a strong lead from Wall Street and ahead of closely watched Chinese growth data later in the morning.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index on Friday rose 169.73 points to 23,509.49.
Chinese shares climbed nearly one per cent in early trade on Friday on bargain hunting ahead of the release of key economic data later in the day, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.97 per cent, or 22.13 points, to 2,307.04.
The government will announce gross domestic product for the fourth quarter, as well as retail sales and industrial output for December.
