Imports of goods rose $808 million, or four per cent, between April and May.
The seasonally adjusted figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Wednesday showed the value of imports in May was $21.868 billion.
The main contributor to the seasonally adjusted change was a 16 per cent rise in imports of fuels and lubricants, lifting that category by $492 million.
