The Dow Jones Industrial Average has RISEN by 132.59 points to 12,982.00 in New York, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index GAINED 1.73 points to 1,418.10
The NASDAQ Composite index was 4.25 points LOWER at 2,985.91.
The Australian dollar is trading at 103.72 US cents, UP from 103.57 US cents at Thursday's close.
The local currency is worth 89.26 Japanese yen, 78.36 euro cents, 64.42 British pence and 1.2639 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is DOWN 11 cents at $US90.87 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open HIGHER, with the SPI futures index UP nine points at 4,637.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Thursday GAINED 12.8 points to 4,648.0 and the broader All Ordinaries index ADDED 15.8 points to 4,661.4.
The spot price of gold is $US1,664.57, UP from Thursday's close of $US1,655.60.
