The stock market in New York has closed HIGHER, with final figures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average UP 36.71 points at 13,021.82, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index is UP 6.02 points at 1,415.95.
The NASDAQ Composite index is UP 20.25 points at 3,012.03.
The Australian dollar is trading at 104.36 US cents, DOWN from 104.67 at Thursday's close.
The local currency is worth 85.73 Japanese yen, 80.43 euro cents, 65.06 British pence and 1.268 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is UP 94 US cents at $US110.45 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open HIGHER, with the SPI futures index UP 23 points at 4512.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Thursday ROSE 30.4 points, or 0.68 per cent, to 4,477.7 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index GAINED 27.5 points, or 0.62 per cent, to 4,490.1 points.
The spot price of gold is $US1,725.10, UP from Thursday's close of $US1,719.62.
