A joint venture between Leighton Holdings and Macmahon Holdings subsidiaries has been selected as the preferred tender for a $450 million upgrade of the Pacific Highway in northern NSW.
Leighton subsidiary Thiess is the 60 per cent partner in the joint venture to design and construct a 26.5 kilometre four-lane divided carriageway from the Fredrickton interchange to Eungia.
Thiess and Macmahon are currently in an alliance delivering the Hunter Expressway near Newcastle.
The new contract will be signed in December and while the value is yet to be finalised, it is expected to be in the order of $450 million.
Once completed in 2016, the new, fully duplicated section will link up with the Kempsey Bypass, which is currently under construction and on track to be completed before Easter 2013.
It will prevent the highway from being cut by all but a once in a century flood.
