The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) says a review of the childcare sector is a worthy cause if it encourages more people into the workforce.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott on Monday announced details of a plan to have the Productivity Commission examine ways to give families greater child care choice and flexibility.
He released the proposed terms of reference for the review aimed at increasing national productivity by addressing the needs of families.
"We welcome any initiatives that provide for greater workforce participation," the chamber's chief economist Greg Evans told reporters in Canberra.
Last week, Mr Abbott also set a target for a coalition government of doubling the rate of new small businesses to 30,000 a year.
Mr Evans said it was a worthy ambition.
"In order to deliver that we need to ensure that the overall settings are right in which we can encourage greater business formation," he said.
"Our concern would be not only to improve circumstances where someone can start up a new business, but certainly improve the lot of current existing small business."
