US-based carmaker Chrysler is recalling 745,000 Jeeps over fears that faulty components could cause airbags to inflate while the vehicles are in use, the US highways safety agency (NHTSA) said.
Two older models, the Jeep Liberty and Jeep Grand Cherokee manufactured from 2001-03 are involved. The potentially faulty component affects front and side airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, the device that pulls the seat belt tight in an accident.
The recall is to begin in the United States in January. It was unclear if vehicles sold in other countries were affected.
Chrysler is owned by Italy's Fiat.
