The stock market in New York has ended the day LOWER.
Preliminary figures put the Dow Jones Industrial Average DOWN 120.95 points to 12,811.78 and Standard & Poor's 500 index DOWN 16.99 points to 1,377.54.
The NASDAQ Composite index FELL 41.71 to 2,895.58.
The Australian dollar is trading at 104.05 US cents, DOWN fractionally from 104.07 at Thursday's close.
The local currency is worth 82.61 Japanese yen, 81.61 euros, 65.10 British pence and 1.2770 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is UP 65 US cents at $US85.09 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open LOWER, with the SPI futures index DOWN 40 points.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Thursday SHED 32.7 points, or 0.72 per cent, at 4,483.8, while the broader All Ordinaries index LOST 32 points, or 0.71 per cent, at 4,502.2.
The spot price of gold is $US1,732.32, UP from Thursday's close of $US1,718.87.
