The Dow Jones Industrial Average is DOWN 276.11 points at 132,969.60 in afternoon trading in New York, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index is DOWN 28.30 points at 1,400.09.
The NASDAQ Composite index is DOWN 68.81 points at 32,943.12.
The Australian dollar is trading at 104.07US cents, DOWN from 104.63 at Wednesday's close.
The local currency is worth 83.14 Japanese yen, 81.54 euros, 65.11 British pence and 1.2601 New Zealand dollars.
Benchmark crude oil is DOWN $US4.27 at $US84.44 per barrel.
The Australia market is set to open LOWER, with the SPI futures index DOWN 33 points.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index on Wednesday GAINED 31.7 points, or 0.71 per cent, at 4,516.5, while the broader All Ordinaries index ROSE 30.5 points, or 0.68 per cent, at 4,534.2.
The spot price of gold is $US1,719.39, DOWN from Wednesday's close of $US1,723.95.
