Macarthur abandons CITIC deal

Macarthur Coal Ltd has abandoned a $110 million deal to buy CITIC Resources Holdings Ltd's interests in a Queensland joint centure.

The collier said it would not buy CITIC's seven per cent stake in the Coppabella and Moorvale joint venture (CMJV) because some minority interests failed to waive their pre-emptive rights, a condition of the deal.

Macarthur already owns 73.3 per cent of the coal project, located 140 kilometres from Mackay.
