Imports of goods rose $187 million in January, or one per cent, to $20.620 billion, seasonally-adjusted, Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures show.
Unadjusted, imports of goods were up $533 million, or three per cent, to $18.962 billion in the month, the ABS said in a statement on Tuesday.
Imports of intermediate and other merchandise goods fell three per cent or $272 million (unadjusted).
Capital goods rose $299 million, or six per cent, mainly driven by a rise in telecommunication equipment.
