The Australian dollar has fallen slightly on a rise in the unemployment rate to 5.4 per cent in December.
Total employment fell 5,500 to 11.539 million in December, according to the seasonally-adjusted figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) on Thursday.
Economists had expected total employment to be flat in December with the unemployment rate at 5.4 per cent.
The Australian dollar was trading at 105.41 US cents at 1135 AEDT, down from 105.65 US cents shortly before the data's release.
The local currency was worth 105.53 US cents at the close of local trade at 1700 AEDT on Wednesday.
