The board of Southern Cross Austereo is expected to release a statement on Monday in response to global condemnation of Radio Station 2DayFM and its presenters.

Chairman Max Moore-Wilton and the board held a crisis meeting on Sunday afternoon to discuss a stinging letter from the London hospital where British nurse Jacintha Saldanha worked before she died on Friday.

2Day FM presenters Mel Greig and Michael Christian have been confronted with a barrage of abusive and threatening messages via social media following the death of Ms Saldanha, who took their prank call at London's King Edward VII Hospital.

Greig and Christian impersonated the Queen and Prince Charles and sought details about the condition of the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge, who was being treated for severe morning sickness.

The Chairman of King Edward VII's Hospital Lord Glenarthur has urged Mr Moore-Wilton to take steps to ensure that such an incident could never be repeated.

"King Edward VII's Hospital cares for sick people, and it was extremely foolish of your presenters even to consider trying to lie their way through to one of our patients, let alone actually make the call," Lord Glenarthur wrote.

He said the decision to air the call was "truly appalling".

On Sunday, Southern Cross Austereo expressed concerns about the mental health of Ms Greig and Mr Christian.

However the company did not release the outcome of Sunday's board meeting.

Comment was being sought from Southern Cross Austereo.
