Poor customer service at David Jones is causing as much angst among shareholders as the troubled retailer's earnings woes.
Several David Jones shareholders used the retailer's annual general meeting on Friday to complain about poor customer service at the department store chain.
Some linked poor customer service with the drop in the company's profits.
"I suggest your profitability is down due to a total and utter lack of customer service in your shops," shareholder Kevin Hughes told the meeting.
But chairman Bob Savage defended the retailer's customer service, saying the company had recently increased staff numbers after realising they had cut back too much.
He said staff numbers were based on customer traffic volumes.
"We manage our customer service in relation to the volume of sales we expect at any one time," he said.
